LTD had the opportunity for a meaningful weekend in San Diego for the USS Michael Monsoor Ship Commissioning, so we decided to have a healthy weekend too by staying at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort!

The Loews Coronado Bay Resort is good for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, visiting San Diego, or a healthy vacation spot. The hotel is 4 miles away from the village of Coronado but has a shuttle if you desire a full array of restaurants or shops. Dining options at the resort could be more extensive but are adequate if you don’t feel like going into the village. Fitness classes and proximity to a secluded area of beach on the strand and long running or cycling trails make it an easy base for your healthy getaway. LTD always tries to combine meaningful and healthy vacations and this was the perfect weekend to do that!
1. Location
Four miles south of the village of Coronado, near the Naval Special Warfare Operations base, along the Silver Strand, the Loews Coronado Bay Resort is located along the Coronado Bay, facing the mainland of San Diego. It is approximately 20-30 minutes to San Diego International Airport. The hotel does not have a shuttle, but Uber was about $25. The Loews is alongside the Silver Strand Bikeway. Built along the path of the former Coronado Beltline Railroad, the cycling and pedestrian path is about 9 miles long and used by locals and vacationers alike. The resort has a shuttle that runes hourly into the central village with drop off and pickup site near the entrance of the Hotel Del Coronado.
2. Check in
No hassles and accommodating despite our late arrival. A late checkout was given to us at checkin without difficulty! Loews has recently revamped their rewards program and even the desk staff cannot tell you if there are any benefits to belonging any longer!
3. Rooms
Why do seaside resorts always have the sea foam green motif? As expected, the Loews Coronado Bay resort does the same. There is nothing spectacular about the rooms. We had a walk-in shower which is important to us. A deep soaking tub is included but not necessary for us. Plush spa robes are included with in room coffee, a safe and Julien Farel products. We like these products for the hair care line which is safe for color-treated hair. It is nice to leave your own shampoo at home! The bed was very comfortable with king size pillows (WHY do hotels put standard size pillows on a king size bed??). We had a partial bay view with a terrace, including two chairs and a small table. This was nice to enjoy coffee and the great San Diego weather.
4. Fitness
This is one area that the hotel shines. We have seen better spas, such as at the Ritz Carlton Lake Oconee or the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, but to have fitness classes such as Pilates, yoga and spin included with the mandatory “resort” fee is a nice touch. The fitness center was well equipped with machines and free weights and was a cool temperature, not the typical 75 degrees at most hotel gyms. Are they trying to save money on electricity? The spa has a steam room and sauna. Showers are available with adequate amenities to wash up should you need to.
This is a great bag for strolling along main street in the village! Click the photo above to learn more about its security features from Amazon, and support our blog! Thank you so much!
5. Dining
We enjoyed meals at the only seated dining restaurant, Crown Landing, which was casual, delicious and had outstanding service. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. The following evening we had dinner at the bar, Cays Lounge, on the terrace at sunset. The heaters and fire pits were on and it was spectacular! The food and service was good. This would be my dining place of choice next time. If you wish to eat inside there are many tables, televisions and a large fireplace inside.
6. Pool
The pools were large with many loungers, umbrellas and cushioned chairs and couches. There is an adult pool and children’s pool, although they right next to each other. There is a great ping pong table which was a lot of fun. Many large towels are available.
