LTD highly recommends the Park Plaza Waterloo Hotel in London England if you plan a sightseeing visit to London, need a convenient base of operation, and don't wish to make your hotel your principal destination!

Bottom line:

At about $200, this is an outstanding option for a brief stay in London when you plan to visit the typical sites, such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Churchill War rooms, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London and even Hampton Court Palace.

Our stay was included as part of a precruise package, so This hotel was chosen for us. Normally we would either use Airbnb or choose an American Express Fine Hotel, but it is always great to see other options! Before this trip LTD needed one additional night at this hotel before our package began and the reservation was easily accomplished online. When our driver pulled up to the hotel, the surrounding area seemed a bit unsavory but quickly we realized the this location if excellent for touring the sites of London. Big Ben (unfortunately under renovation at the time of this article) is less than a mile away. Waterloo train station is about 1/4 mile away and the Westminster tube stop is very nearly as well. Take the Waterloo train to see Hampton Court Palace and have dinner at the Muted Swan to step back in time and get out of the city.

To get to the Tower of London, you will need to take a boat which can be fun, the tube or just walk.  Look at our visit to the Tower of London in this Video:

Check in was speedy, but unfortunately a room was not available for our early morning flight. The attendant combined our two reservations without a fuss and made sure we had a king sized bed even though our reservation was for twin beds. Luggage storage and a London map with directions to the nearby sites was provided without any difficulty!

Later our luggage was delivered to our king bed room. The hotel is clearly new, having been opened in late 2016. For large city standards, rooms are remarkably large with ample space to put your luggage and unpack. A large window provides great light and blinds are automated in control panels provided by the door and bed.

The bathroom was large and has only a walk in shower, and this is important if you are a fan of baths. Amenities are by Elemis which is provided by much more upscale hotels in the USA, so this was a surprise.

Notably the beds are comfortable and appear to be of a tempur-pedic quality.linens are comfortable but have the typical comforter-only layout, like most European hotels.

Privacy switches in the electronic switch panels by the door and bed are great and better than the dreaded door hangers of many hotels. Isn’t it nice to place a “do not disturb” notice from your bed when you decide to take a nap and don’t want housekeeping knocking on your door?

Tea and instant coffee with an electric kettle are provided in the rooms. A Nespresso machine would be nice for jet lag but cest la vie!

The Hotel Amenities.

The Spa at this hotel was a surprise! We visited the indoor pool during the “children’s hours.” It is nice to have a choice of adult time or family time at pool. The spa had great changing areas, a sauna, steam room and treatment areas. The price list is 8ncluded here. The low light was relaxing but the blue colored lights were a little odd.

Breakfast was crowded but a typical European breakfast with breads, cereals, hot choices, juices teas and Coffees.it was nothing spectacular but met our needs and was included with our reservation. We enjoyed dinner one night at the hotel which was Italian style and delicious.
