Full of Art and Style, the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel is Conveniently Located Near the Major Museums and Event Venues of Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina.

Right in the heart of Uptown—the downtown district of Charlotte—sits the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel. This luxury hotel in Charlotte overlooks Romare Bearden Park, is mere steps away from from the Panthers Bank of America Stadium, the Hornets Spectrum Center and Knights BB&T Ballpark, and surrounded by fantastic restaurants, museums and theaters.

Kimpton Hotels is one of IHG's lifestyle brands and this newer Charlotte hotel and rooftop bar is sure to please travelers of all styles.

1. Location

This location is outstanding to attend sporting events in Charlotte being directly adjacent to Bank of America Stadium and the Spectrum Center. Not a sports fan? There are plenty of other activities nearby with frequent concerts, live stage productions, opera, symphony and museums. Charlotte is a great destination for foodies and the uptown area is loaded with options within walking distance or a short Uber. The front auto entrance and valet isn't easy to find so look closely at the corner of W. 3rd Street and S. Church Street on your left when you're heading south on Church Street. The entrance is immediately on your left after you pass 3rd Street.  Be sure to ask about the Kimpton House Car if you need to go somewhere and you don't want to walk, since we found out very quickly that Uber or Lyft drivers have a hard time finding the hotel!

2. Check-in

We were greeted as members and checked in early without any difficulty from a very accommodating employee who was very helpful to orient us to the hotel, it's amenities and immediate area.

3. Rooms

While we love dogs, it only takes one barking pup to ruin a hotel stay. We requested a room on a high "non-pet" floor and our request was fulfilled without question. The room has more than adequate space for the luggage that we carried. Kimpton has contemporary but comfortable amenities and if you are used to a more traditional style, you should find the decor satisfactory.

The bed was very comfortable with good pillows to match the size of the bed. However, we found the room to be exceptionally hot despite adjusting the temperature on the thermostat. This required us to notify reception more than once. The problem was fixed by the end of our stay.

The television is wonderful with a large screen and great picture. Getstreaming.tv is provided so you can cast your own programs from personal subscriptions like YouTube TV or Netflix for example.

In room bottled water, coffee and tea are not provided but coffee and tea are also available in the lobby in the morning. An in-room safe is available and you can request coffee among many other complementary amenities to be sent to your room.

The view from our room was along Church Street and there are some fabulous westerly views available from rooms or the rooftop where you can enjoy the sunset or a Charlotte Knights game! The rooms were quiet and LTD always advises requesting a high floor in an urban setting to avoid street noise, however be aware of there is a rooftop bar! At this hotel we advise against the top 2-3 floors because of weekend bar noise -- Merchant and Trade is open until 1 AM on weekends! There is a mini bar but no refrigerator in the room. Frette robes and a yoga may are available in the room closet.

4. Bathrooms

The bathrooms are bright and airy at the Kimpton Tryon Park. There adequate vanity space for travelers and unfortunately our room didn't have a walk-in shower but a tub shower combo which as you know means: a shower curtain: not one of our favorite things!

Toiletries are by Atelier Bloem, a bespoke collection of fragrances inspired by Bloemenmarkt, Amsterdam's famed floating flower market. Interestingly, large bottles of the basic products are provided in the shower. It's up to you whether you like this or not....regardless the scent of these products is wonderful in our opinion.

Remember when attending sporting events like nearby Panthers, Hornets or Knights games, most stadiums will not allow you to bring large or opaque bags.  Plan ahead and bring a clear stadium bag to take essentials to the big game.  Click the photo below to look at our favorite clear crossbody at Amazon and support our blog!

5. Fitness

There is a good fitness room with 2 Peloton bikes and an outdoor yoga deck but no pool.

Certainly the area surrounding the hotel is safe for walking or jogging. Bicycles are available for use as well.

6. Dining

This Kimpton has two restaurants on-site, Angeline's and Market and Trade. We enjoyed the rooftop Market and Trade with great food and drink offerings. Be sure to try the beef sliders, pimento cheese potato chips and nachos. Indoor and outdoor seating options are available, all with fabulous views of Uptown Charlotte.

Be sure to enjoy the evening happy hour with 2-4 selections of wine and a nightly appetizer complimentary in the lobby from 5-6 PM.

Other restaurants that we recommend nearby:

  • Peppervine. Not within walking distance but not to be missed.  Go hungry and be prepared for a culinary experience at Charlotte's newest restaurant. Make your reservations ahead and be prepared to open your wallet so that you can enjoy the hottest table in town. Make sure to enjoy Chef Bill Green's latest creations like fried chicken with Thai flavors, papaya and burnt lime or squid ink bucatini with Spanish octopus, bone marrow, and kale. Make sure to check out the award winning wine list via iPad or traditional wine book.

  • The Cellar At Duckworth's.  The service is phenomenal, the beer cellar is amazing, and don't miss the truffle fries or steak. This location is highly recommend for those on a date or with friends hanging out with an atmosphere that has low lights and quiet chatter.
  • Dogwood Southern Table & Bar.  You will need a vehicle, but Dressler restaurants are a local favorite and Dogwood provides delicious regional cuisine in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Dogwood uses as many local food products from the Carolinas as possible.
  • Cafe Monte.  Treat yourself to an authentic French bakery and bistro. At Café Monte, they are known for affordable, high-quality French fare, all of which are prepared to order.
  • La Belle Helene Always topping the list of local favorites, and designed by renowned Parisian designer Richard Lafond, they bring a timeless philosophy to the Charlotte restaurant scene with a lively and casual take on the classic French brasserie concept.
  • Amelie's French Bakery. Looking for something sweet?  With several Charlotte, locations Amelie's is the place to go.  The Uptown location is within walking distance to the Kimpton.  Try almond tea cake or the chocolate croissants because they are always fresh.
  • Craft Growler Shop  Looking for somewhere to tailgate before the next Panthers or Knights game?  With a shared love of simple good food and craft beer, husband /wife team Alyson and Dan Davis opened Craft Tasting Room and Growler Shop in 2014 in the Gold District of Charlotte’s South End with the idea to create a warm and inviting place to enjoy local craft beer, artisanal regional cheeses and charcuterie.

Bottom line:

We recommend Kimpton Tryon Park for any visit to Charlotte, North Carolina. One of the best features of the hotel though is simply the location. A game-day favorite during football season and ideal for the business traveler, you will be steps from most major businesses in Uptown Charlotte and have easy access to all the fun activities taking place in this stylish city. An added benefit of its location in a central neighborhood of Charlotte, is that you can travel to many of the other local neighborhoods in just a short car ride or if you're lucky, the Kimpton house car can take you.
